In this blog, I want to talk about summer fashion.
And why summer, you may ask? Because for us here in Australia, summer started officially last Sunday, on December 1st.
First a bit of history.
When I was a fashion designer in the eighties, I had to be aware of new trends about a year before they hit the streets. As you can imagine, I needed this information to design my collections and have garments made in time for each new season.
Very exclusive professional journals provided this service.
And I noticed then that Australia tended to be ahead of the Northern Hemisphere, rather than lagging behind. So I’m confident that what I’m writing about will also be valid for the summer many of you will enjoy in six months’ time.
In a nutshell, here are the four main stories of Summer 2013-14 fashion trends:
1 – White is very big – either white on white, or contrasted with black. And it seems this trend will continue into next winter. So I’ll be offering black and white scarves soon. Please let me know if you’re interested! I don’t have black ones yet, but I sure have lots of pure white ones!
2 – The second main fashion trend is the girly look: Soft dresses, flowing materials, floral patterns and pretty colours. Check for the newest scarves in the Latest Collection Gallery. Some of them reflect this softy feminine look.
3 – Another fashion trend is continuing from last summer: a riot of colours and bold patterns. As you can see in the above photo, I love them! Here I am, standing on our terrace with my latest scarf – ‘Floral Delight’ – almost competing with the local King Parrots!
For comparison, you can check them out eating out of Michael’s hand – and yes, not only are they green and red, they’re also blue and purple under their wings ?
4 – And finally for classic elegance, I suggest the burnt orange story: various shades of terracotta, ranging from amber to cayenne with shades of pink. Check ‘Red Centre’ plus the latest additions ‘Amber’ and ‘Indian Summer’. All of them are perfect for this season!
This is where accessories are so wonderful!
Because not everyone wants to look colourful from head to toe, even in the name of fashion! So why not wear your favourite beige, navy or black outfits and brighten them up in a different way every day?
Or jump in with both feet and enjoy the ride!
And now I would love to hear from you. Please let me know below what you think of this post. Are you already following any of these trends? Are you likely to do so?
Meanwhile please like this blog on the links above because your friends may want to know about this too.
And remember that Christmas is exactly three weeks away! Time to get your orders in ?
