I’m writing this first entry with much excitement as Michael and I are getting ready to launch this website. Which means we’re officially turning my favourite hobby – silk painting – into a business. Is it a rational decision, luck or self-fulfilling prophecy?
Let me tell you a story. About thirty years ago, a wise older man named Andrew Verity Senior read my hand. He started our session by telling me things about my past that were so specific and accurate that I was most impressed. So he certainly had my attention when he turned to the future.
At some stage Andrew paused and looked rather surprised. He checked and rechecked a few points on both hands before saying that he had spotted a rather unusual pattern. And this pattern indicated that, after other significant life changes, I would eventually become a successful and recognised fine artist in my sixties.
Maybe he said ‘might’ or used the word ‘potential’… I don’t remember. But the fact is I loved this idea, so embraced it wholeheartedly!.. And then I put it on the back-burner. To a thirty-something, 60+ years old seems a long, long way away, doesn’t it?
Now fast-forward twenty years. At that stage I had left the world of fashion and was passionately engaged in a new profession. As a meditation teacher, therapist, writer and public speaker, I was very busy indeed. Yet when Michael asked me what I wanted for my birthday, I remembered Andrew’s prophecy. Jokingly I told him that, if I was meant to become a highly successful artist in the next decade or so, I had better start practising a visual art form! So I asked for silk-painting equipment – dyes, a frame and white silk. He happily cooperated. And from that moment I was hooked. And I still am.
I just love silk-painting. It makes my heart sing and my soul fly into very ethereal, silent and loving places. And in this dimension, time stops as my hands mix and spread colours…
So how ‘lucky’ am I to now turn such a marvellous hobby into a business? Will I become as successful as Andrew predicted? Time will tell. What I know for sure is that I’m now ready to share love and joy through the vibrations of colour rather than words. Because peaceful, harmonious frequencies spread in more ways than one.
Wherever you live in the world, thank you for being here with me now. Please know that I welcome and value your comments. So feel free to add something below! Your turn.
From the bottom of my heart, I wish you the best.
